4. IPA (phonetic) symbols
English is not a phonetic language. So, we often don't say a word the same way as its spelt. English spelling is incredibly confusing, and this is when knowing the IPA is useful.
When we learn the difference between, International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA), letters and sounds, you'll find pronouncing words becomes so much easier.
I believe it's ESSENTIAL to know how to pronounce at least 5, if not, all of the IPA vowels and a few tricky IPA consonants, you may be having difficulty with such as the, 'r' 'th' b,p, t, 'before you start learning the other aspects of English pronunciation.
A good dictionary prints the IPA code next to every word and how to pronounce it, including where the stress needs to be.
Depending on the individual, It takes around 30 mins to learn the IPA and how to read it. The difficulty is to become fluent in it, but once you achieve this, knowing the IPA will help you immensely and will save you lots of time in fixing your sounds.
5. Focus on important sounds
We will focus on the sounds that will make the key differences to your accent. The priority is to work on the sounds so that people can understand you). Depending on your level we may cover vowels, consonants, rhythm, intonation, and quality of voice.
